Re: Jack Daniels World Barbecue Championship 2009

In all seriousness, I would nominate Darryl Koster from Buster Rhino's. I'm not sure most people fully realize what this guy does for the BBQ community. Be it donating money to the artist formerly known as the CBA to go towards prize money and trophies, dragging his trailer to Ottawa and Paris to sel...

Re: BBQ Series

Sounds like some people are in the same boat I'm in - I've taken a back seat to competitive BBQ for right now because I'm working on a business venture. Unfortunately I'm hanging in the wind waiting on decisions that have yet to be made, so this prohibits me from committing to the cause until I find...

I have not looked at helping as a way to end up benefiting like this. It was more too bring in the outsider & to make someone feel more comfortable doing what they loved to do, cook bbq. That is the key Earl. You always help and never expect anything in return aside from making someone feel welcome...

Earl - hands down. I've met a lot of great people doing this, but I think I'd be hard pressed to find a more genuine ambassador of BBQ then Earl. Be it helping out another team, volunteering to help the CBA or the charity work that he does, he makes sure he uses every one of those 284 smokers of his...

Congrats

To Homefires Burnin on an 8th place overall finish in Grand Rapids. That was on tough field to crack the top 10 in! Still waiting on individual category scores.

I always thought your backyard was the largest bbq center in Canada???

OGB is the coolest store I've ever been to in terms of BBQ. The service is second to none and Duff is one of the nicest guys around!

Hi Adrienne, I agree with you 100% - it is marking, but my point is that aren't all the boxes marked simply by their contents at this event. If I want to cheat and I tell a judge "Look for a pulled pork sandwich on a kaiser bun with a side of chili in a bread bowl and a cornbread muffin" isn't that ...

Here we go with another rant about marking... I'll be turning in a 1/2 rack of ribs with a side of chili in a bread bowl and a cornbread muffin - everybody knows now what my box will look like - why does it matter if I have a tomato rose in there? That's giving something away? Are the onsite judges ...

Me too. This one needs clarification before every box I turn in gets DQ'd. We had tons of sculpted stuff in our boxes last year. "Garnish and side dishes are left to the creativity of each team." Are we going to be allowed to be as creative as possible?

Hi Chris, You are on the right track. In each of the 4 categories you will turn in 4 styrofoam boxes - each will have a complete meal - the meat obviously, as well as your side dishes that you are serving with the meat entry. Everything has to fit inside the box. Then, 20 minutes later, 2 onsite jud...

Hi Paul, As long as you know what went wrong it's not a wasted cook. It's the old, I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand theory. There is no better way to learn that making a few mistakes. We've all done it and we've all eaten our fair share of bad food, but that's what ma...
