Hocks & hooves

Hey everyone,

My local butcher always has hocks & hooves available and i'm wondering what the heck i could do with them. They are nice and cheap so i don't mind experimenting but is there much usable meat on them?

Thanks
Andrew

Re: Question: Stainless steel brickettes used for cooking?

I can't see there being anything wrong with it, after all a lot of high end gas ranges have stainless steel just as close to the flame as they would be on his grill. It wouldn't hurt for him to leave his grill on stun for half an hour before putting any food on to burn off anything that may have bee...

Re: Leftover Turkey Help

Hey Guys,

I made a sauce using a can on Cream of Mushroom & Garlic soup, 1/4 cup appx of miracle whip, about 2 tsp of medium curry powder and a splash of lemon juice and it turned out really well. Try it out sometime :)

+1 for the WSM

I have always been a foodie and always buy the best i can afford and the WSM is no exception. For a foodie or not, it is definitly the best smoker you can buy in that price range.

Volunteered for work cookout

Hey Everyone, I've been volunteered (voluntolled) to cater a work function / charity event. It will involve cooking for about 40 persons, 6 of which are vegetarians. I was thinking of doing portobello mushrooms topped with spinach, bruchetta mix and mont jack cheese for the vegarians (thankfully not...

Re: Pork Belly

The nearest abatoir is about 150km away. I've left messages with a few butchers in town so i hope to hear from them sometime Monday. I'll have to ask the butchers where they get their meat from. One of the butchers in town i might have a hard time getting bellys from as he also sells bacon for 99c /...

Pork Belly

Hey everyone, I'm thinking of doing bacon for the first time and i'm looking for a pork belly. My farmer that i usually buy from doesn't have any available and probibly won't until the fall. Is it usually better to try and get them from your grocery store or a butcher directly? and how much should i...

Re: First pulled pork

Here's some pics of the first cook after the family had some picking though. Couldn't get my camera out fast enough before they dove in. Tasted great but i think i would like some more bark next time which probably resulted from me pulling it too quick. I pulled it when it hit 190 and rested for 30 ...
