Re: Help me help my Economic Development Director.......

I was never involved in CBA and am embroiled in all that American stuff (memphis) so I am kind of caught up in it. When I did the St. Thomas event in September, I kind of got the impression that Mike, Barb, Harvey & some others might be on their way to stabilizing what I see right now as a completel...

Help me help my Economic Development Director.......

So here's the thing.....in Owen Sound (where we have seen some snowflakes already), our Economic Development Director (also in charge of tourism) thinks a barbecue event of some kind would be a great thing to have -- there is simply no such thing currently in our neighbourhood. He gets all excited w...

Re: Real BBQ is moving north

There is a man at the Meaford Farmers Market on Georgian Bay, Friday afternoons, who has a small smoker and does the most amazing beef ribs for sale. The smell of smoke just draws lovers of bbq like a magnet; you can just tell something good is happening. However, I missed him this year (just never ...

And why the hell does it say "beer wench" by my picture? I am, of course, fine with that, secure as I am in my own raging male heterosexuality, but still...............

Que

Blues 'n Cue would work immensely well. It seem a staple of many Southern US events, and in Canada we a) seem drawn to key elements of the American South experience, and b) have just a great contingent of blues bands to draw from (check out the Bearcats from Owen Sound....www.thebearcats.com). In fa...

Re: CSBBC 2009 RESULTS *OFFICIAL*

So....it has taken me a long time to digest what happened at the CSBBQ in St. Thomas. Some random thoughts. First, I am a Memphis-certified, and Memphis In May certified judge. As such, my experience has been in comparative judging rather than the KCBS style, but I have done a couple of those now as...

Re: CSBBQ JUDGING CALL

I am a judge, but have a Friday night committment in Orillia. What is the actual judging schedule for Saturday, and is there a need for judges on Sunday, at all?

I am Memphis In May Certified and MBN trained....just may be a victim of bad timing.
Thanks!

Re: Barrie Event-Rip-off for judges

Just for the record, I pay to judge in the World Championship in Memphis. I paid my way to Memphis, hotel, and paid for the training I got to be "memphis-trained". I paid all those costs to return to Memphis twice for the World Championship, and in return I got an apron and a judges pin, PLUS comple...

Check out the Big Green Egg. People who use it, swear by it!! It's heavy as all get-out, but is sensational!

Re: favorite type of wood

It really depends on what you are cooking. Hickory is the staple, of course, and in Canada you might have trouble finding quantities of the woods southern pros use. But too much hickory can overpower any gentle spicing you are trying to impart, and if it stays in the back of the mouth long after sup...

Hello from Owen Sound, ON (MIM-certified)

Hello from Owen Sound, Ontario! When I was invited by a cousin in Memphis, TN to the World Championship at Memphis in May, and learned you can't get the stuff the competitors cook, I thought "Why would I drive all the way to Memphis if I can't eat the Q?" Then I realized there was a way to get the v...
