Re: Calgary - BBQ on the Bow Results

Huge thanks to you & D. for making the long journey out to CowTown. We truly enjoyed being your neighbors and getting to know you both better. Big congrats for the Brisket win. It was fantastic beef. We have a big country and I can't tell you how awesome I think it is to get some cross-pollination ...

Re: Spare ribs at Costco?

I don't know if Ontario is the same, but out here Costco gets their pork from Colorado. The back ribs are meaty, the spares are huge, the bigger cases are over 45 lbs, 10 slabs per case. I like them both. Good prices too. Their beef is good quality because it's all Canadian AAA. It has nothing to do...

Re: What do you guys think of the fast eddy pellet cooker?

That new FE grill is pretty amazing... Flexibility is the key, you can do more with it. PLUS, it's insulated all around the cook chamber, a big bonus in the Canadian winters, much lower pellet consumption. Mad Cow BBQ from Langley is cooking on one this summer and they really like it. BUT, yes it's...

Re: Manitoba Open BBQ Championship

Well, Morden reached 15 registered teams last week and is now officially (confirmed) a qualifying event - with only one comp in Manitoba that makes it an automatic for the Jack.

Hope to see you there!

Re: Smoke on the Water

A little embarrassed that only 5 teams ended up competing, especially since we had 17 teams in Regina 3 weeks ago... But a great time was had by all nonetheless. We were all thrilled to host Danielle, it added an extra element of competition that we all appreciated! What a true ambassador to BBQ she...

Re: cooking a Steamship round ? ? ?

A clod is definitely shoulder, and weighs nowhere close to 50-70 lbs. A steamship round could weight that much, I believe it's more or less the upper thigh of the cow. it consists of the inside/top round and the outside / bottom round, plus the bone in the middle. A huge piece of beef. And it's lean...

Saskatoon - Smoke on the Water July 25-26 (Jack anyone?)

I'm just posting an announcement of a competition up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on July 25-26. This is a first year event and will be a Jack qualifier if it hits the 15-team threshold. We do have competitive barbecue up here in the Canadian prairies, in fact we had 17 teams out to a similar competit...

Pile of Bones BBQ - Western Canadian Championships July 4-

This event is 4 days away... Any teams coming out from East of Manitoba? Last count was 17 teams registered, including 3 teams from the West coast and a couple US teams. Should be a great time! For anyone still sitting on the fence  there are significant gas credits being paid to teams coming ...
