Local orchards are a great source, show up with a bow saw and a bit of wood is usually free, just watch out for wood pruned due to bug damage.

Smokinlicious is in Olen NY a bit of a drive south for you but FedEx ground might be cheap. http://www.smokinlicious.com/

just watch out for wood pruned due to bug damage.
this may be a good thing because it means the wood is pesticide free :D

Since you are in the US, you can get big bags of hickory or mesquite chunks for about $10/bag at Home Depot. The bags are probably about 20 lbs I would guess. I always buy some when I go to the states, since I can't get anything other than shavings and chips locally.

Seen 'em here at Lowes, Home Depot, and WalMart.

However, while those places have hickory and mesquite chips, They only have mesquite chunks. But what the heck, mesquite smoke is good anyway.

I just bought a big bag of hickory chunks from Home Sense for $7. It was in the clearance section.

How big should chunks be? BTW.

Say for a leccie smoker like a Masterbuilt of Cookshack.

Check the grocery stores. Some grocery stores near me sell bags of Hickory and Mesquite chunk wood. Every now and then I'll find a bag of Apple or Cherry, but not very often. If you're really having a hard time finding chunk wood, the manager at your grocery store might can order you some.

Either that or buy online. There are several sites out there that sell chunk wood for smoking.

I'll check Lowes, I have liked the hickory thus far. I'm gonna be near there later on, gotta go to Costco, Guinness is 21 bucks for an 18 pack of the 14.9 ounce cans of the draught (wid da liddle widget).
