Nice home brew Fishdat. You got me thinking on what to do with my old oil tank. Do you have any photos of the inside grate arrangement? Are you venting the smoke through holes in the top or is it venting around the door seals?

Can you use an old oil that that was actually used for oil as a smoker? I am switching to natural gas and am curious.

Once you get it cut open, build a big fire in it and let it go for a while.
When the black smoke dies down, you know your done.

Gotta say.... I LOVE the pictures of the finished product (the smoker and the food!).

Just wish this thing had smell-o-vision! :)

That is a good idea building it on a trailer. It has me just about changing my mind on how i am gonna do mine.
