The winner of the Amateur event (and a prize of a Traeger Lil' Tex smoker) was:
Schitz & Giggles, from the Brantford area.
They and 'Rub & Tug' tied in points, but first tie-breaker of bringing in low score, resulted in Schitz & Giggles coming out ahead by 2 pts. A very close result right across the board and some very fine ribs turned in!
Congrats to Schitz and Giggles and to all the teams (we had 8 show up) for their participation in the 1st Canada Southern Amateur cookoff!

Something is very wrong with the results you have posted. They do not match the score sheets and the award ceremony.

YOU ARE CORRECT, I WILL REPOST THIS MORNING. SEE MY ORIGINAL POST FOR CLARIFICATION

Just wanted to say on behalf of my wife and I we had a FANTASTIC time at the event. What a fabulous experience it was to be last-minute judges. We learned a lot... and ate a lot... it was just an incredible time.

We made a few new friends and look forward to competing next year.

I'd like to personally thank Harvey for being patient and answering lots of newbie questions that, I'm sure, he's answered a bazillion times... but made us feel terrific for asking. A great man and a tribute to the bbq world.

I'd also like to thank Barb and Mike for putting on a terrific event. Given this is the first of hopefully many great future events in St. Thomas, I hope that folks will remember what went well... ten grand in prizes. A great group of competitors. A fun bunch of people.

If you missed it this year, you gotta make it next year. It'll be bigger, better and more fun.

It has been a very long weekend, we are just getting our house back in order and computers set back up. After all of the dust settled we had some time to go over the event with our stakeholders. Overall a great event and it appears that it will be on again next year providing some details get resolved.

Our two biggest hurtles was the dirt, (that will be resolved for sure) and the flow of traffic we were promised. My concert contact was not onsite on Friday night and all of our requests for announcements was ignored. Saturday was very different and I am please to announce North of the border as well as the Bubba Q Shack both sold over $400 of products EACH. Norpac also did well making up for a dismal Friday night of vending.

Entry fees to the public will not be added again and if there is a concert anywhere near us it will be our event putting it on.

Barb not I will be competing, I did not have enough time to get into my site and poor Sue had to carry the Ball.

There will be no more tickets for food, what a nightmare. While the people’s choice was a great idea we have to work on it to get the volunteers and ballots better organizes. We have to get the public down to all of the teams.

We will be sooner in the summer, and our committee will have to be beefed up.

More instruction to the Judges and we will have to get some classes to local amateurs done before hand. Other this all of these little things, the public was greatly impressed, the venue directors are on board and the local business want to get involved next year

Special thanks to all of those who helped out and to those of you that showed up...

Thanks
